MEMORANDUM FOR RECORD                                                                             5 NOV 99

SUBJECT: DCST SIGNIFICANT ACTIVITIES

    m. (Update) REVALIDATION OF JUNGLE STUDY.

Background: DA DCSOPS DOT Tasked TRADOC to review and revalidate 1997 Jungle Operations Training Study following closure of Jungle School. The main finding from the 1997 study were: Ft Sherman was best location to conduct jungle training; No "good" jungle locations in US territory; Cost prohibitive to establish a separate OCONUS jungle "CTC"; and Jungle requirements can be met with Foreign schools/exchanges. DCST tasked USAIC to revalidate study and to review current Army jungle training programs and unit METL requirements.

Current Status: USAIC continues to work action. Effort includes assessment of MACOMs jungle training strategies and requirements.

Pending Actions: Expected completion is 14 Nov 99. USAIC POC is Major Brian Maka---makab@benning.army.mil, DSN 835-1017. CTD’s POC is MAJ Jennings, DSN 680-5721.
